This is not a question that an interviewer will ask you , but if you are 50+ and looking for a job you need to know how to present your self as a productive and ambitious person.

Although it's illegal to disqualify you because of your age , they will never tell you that this was the reason you did not get the job.

When you presents your self don't be afraid to tell your age , and speak a bout it in a positive way.
Remember , you need to break the ice and to remove the interviewer concerns.

Some of your advantages can be :
1.You don't have little children at home , so you can be more dedicated to your work .
2.rich resume that can contribute to the company.
3.your loyalty to the company is more than a young person that will leave for another job next year for more money.

If you have got more please share .

I would also stress work ethic, dedication and experience as major pluses which also go with being over 50. Going in with a positive attitude and showing excitement and energy for the job in addition to your strengths with lessen the age gap.

Demonstrate how you keep up with technology. Are you on linkedin.com, twitter, etc? Use jargon that is currently used in the position you are applying for. Have an updated looking resume.

Regardless of your age, the job search comes down to how well we can solve problems. When talking to a prospective employer, the most important question you can ask is: "What is your biggest problem?". Then the search comes down to whether you are the best qualified person to solve that problem.

As far as discrimination goes, it certainly happens - especially with "permanent" employment. However, there are plenty of contract and consulting opportunities available, and our job is to go out and find them. The best thing we can do is quit thinking about how old we are, and focus on solving problems. If we do that, the rest will take care of itself.
