Your patient is a 2 months old cat who was found in the streets a few days ago. The owners saw an alopecia focus with a diameter of 1 cm near the left ear. What would you ask the owners? What are the dd's? What is the most likely dd? How will you confirm it? What are the possible treatmentS and which one is more recommended than the others? Why?

I would ask how long they have the cat for. WHICH TREATMENTS AND VACCINATIONS HE RECIEVED and if he was treated for flees? Does it itch?
DD's: dermatophytes, FAD, scabies, a scar, baterial dematitis. Most likeky: dermatophytes. DIAGNOSIS BY CULTURE. Meanwhile treat with a general ointment like dermacombin.
TREATMENT POSSIBILITIES: Ointments for local treatment like nizoral, shampoos (nizoral), systemic treatment (ketoconazole, itraconazole, terbinafine' griseofulvin). Most recommended is the systemic treatments like itraconazole and terbinafine which have less side effects (liver mainly). Local treatments can cause the cat to become a carrier and develpe the desease again  after treatment or infect others (humens as well, don't forget!).

I had the same problem with my cat but now everything is great. I totally agree with the first answer that you should ask how long they have the cat for and if he was treated for flees. These questions are very important I think. I hope that everything is OK for your cat. Good Luck, Jeremy T. from replica watches
