Both PHP and ASP are server side scripting languages that are used to develop dynamic web pages; dynamic web pages are generated by the server freshly for each display.
• PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) is a free open source product while
ASP (Active Server Pages) is a proprietary product of Microsoft Corporation.

• PHP is platform independent and compatible with MYSQL (free), whereas
ASP works on windows platform (to deploy websites in ASP, it is necessary to get a license of Windows and SQL Server database, which are not free).

• Complexity of the code and deployment time is higher in ASP compared to PHP.

• Improvements to the ASP are done by Microsoft after collecting user experience data and feedbacks, support and improvements of PHP are run through the community contribution.

• Hosting cost is lesser in PHP than ASP.
