Lean manufacturing logic question

hypothetical example. -- Assume you are the Manager of 250k sq ft manufacturing facility; labor costs are higher than the competition, fixed overhead rate is rising, and quality DPM is rising -- using lean concepts and tools, how would you go about improving shop performance?

Not difficult if the candidate understands lean manufacturing -- the areas to cover would be: 1) evaluating customer demand to capacity 2) use VSM to understand material flow and bottlenecks 3) Use QCPC to track product turnbacks / escapes and find root cause of quality issues 4) Implement Kaizen events to improve process and material flow (likely to result in reduced labor costs and more efficient production layout of the shop) 5) Develop visual controls to manage production 6) Institute 5S / TPM to keep the factory well ordered and machines running efficiently and on time.
